Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Literacy Education, the Part-Time Literacy Education Instructor is responsible for teaching and ensuring that proper procedures are followed and appropriate resources are available to meet the needs of each student in the Literacy Education Classroom. The position will ensure that literacy education students receive appropriate levels of instruction based upon their respective placement testing scores. The position will monitor students' progress and strive to enhance students' success.
- Assist the literacy education program in meeting or exceeding state benchmark percentages for completion of Education Functional Levels (EFL), Measurable Skills Gains (MSG), Post-testing, and students obtaining and retaining employment.
- Aid students in entering postsecondary education or job training.
- Recruit for Halifax Community College's English as a Second Language Class, Literacy Education Class, and others.
- Maintain students' records and documents.
- Meet classes as assigned by contract.
- Take a variety of teaching and learning styles.
- Participate in professional development trainings, webinars, meetings, seminars, and conferences.
- Follow North Carolina Community College System College and Career Readiness Adult Basic Education Content Standards and Benchmarks.
Required Minimum/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education or a related field.
- Prior teaching experience.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently requires standing, sitting, and walking.
- Occasionally requires lifting (10-15 pounds), repetitious finger and wrist movement, and reaching both high and low.
- Constantly requires speaking clearly, hearing, and seeing.
Equipment
- Generally, this employee must be able to operate office equipment such as personal computer, fax machine, photocopier, etc.
- This employee must be able to operate an automobile, as the ability to drive and travel is an expected part of the job.
