Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC provides associate’s degrees in business, education, general studies, liberal arts, and science, primarily for students transferring to four-year universities. SWCC also offers career-focused associate’s degrees in fields such as Nursing, Radiography, and Administration of Justice.

SWCC invites applications for adjunct faculty positions. The College seeks faculty who adapt to diverse teaching situations, use technology effectively, and foster a climate of cultural diversity and student success. Adjunct faculty must reside in Virginia or be available to teach in-person at SWCC locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).

About the role

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with varied academic backgrounds and experiences. Responsibilities include upholding the College’s mission and values, participating in program evaluation, and engaging in continuous professional development in virtual education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instruction in assigned courses
  • Teach students with diverse academic backgrounds and experiences
  • Utilize relevant technology and learning management systems to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication
  • Maintain consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms to ensure student success
  • Participate in the College’s mission, goals, and program evaluation processes
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting during emergency declarations

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline (Biology)
  • Official transcripts required prior to final offer
  • Ability to teach in multiple modalities, including virtual environments
  • Access to reliable technology (WiFi, computer) for remote teaching
  • Must reside in Virginia or be available for in-person instruction at SWCC locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience
  • Work experience in the field
  • Experience with online teaching, including synchronous and asynchronous learning environments
  • Experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology
  • Proven experience developing innovative online courses at a regionally accredited institution

Pay

$793–$1,058 per semester credit hour
