About the role
CENTERS, LLC is a professional management firm specializing in facility, operation, and program management for higher education. The firm customizes its approach for each client while maintaining uniform quality, uniting site staff with a centralized administrative team to meet client needs. This position is on-site at the Bloomberg Student Center (BSC) on Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Campus, America’s first research university, which opened its first-ever student center in August 2025. The 148,000-square-foot facility transforms the student experience by providing spaces for socializing, connecting, creating, and relaxing, while also inviting the community through events, programs, and dining.
Responsibilities
- Act as the eyes and ears of the Bloomberg Student Center, supporting Operations Managers by reporting issues, troubleshooting, and assisting with supervision of part-time staff on shift.
- Enforce policies and coordinate emergency responses while maintaining a customer service mindset.
- Perform routine facility rounds to supervise student staff, troubleshoot issues, and maintain cleanliness of equipment and facility.
- Respond to all medical and non-medical emergencies; initiate emergency action plans, notify university and local authorities, and complete reports.
- Assist part-time staff with tasks and assume responsibilities of an area if unstaffed.
- Communicate and consistently enforce policies with patrons and staff.
- Provide excellent customer service, conduct facility tours, and resolve guest concerns.
- Report injuries, incidents, member and guest issues, maintenance issues, and staff issues.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled Johns Hopkins University student preferred.
- Previous work experience preferred, particularly in customer service, fitness centers, retail, or events.
Skills
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Sound decision-making and excellent communication skills, including active listening.
- Service-oriented with the ability to resolve customer grievances.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new software.
- Ability and willingness to enforce policies.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Office and event environment with moderate to loud noise; non-smoking.
- Walking or working in the student center for 95% of the workday.
- Must be able to traverse the building and campus, including ascending/descending levels and occasionally ladders or stools.
- Ability to lift, move, and set up items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to discuss, converse, and exchange accurate information with patrons, staff, and stakeholders.
