Psychosocial & Spiritual Care Counsellor

About the role

The Psychosocial Spiritual Care Counsellor (PSC Counsellor) reports to the Director, Community Programs & Quality at Dorothy Ley Hospice (DLH).

Responsibilities

• Assess psychosocial and spiritual needs, develop and maintain care plans, and provide counselling using a person-centered, trauma-informed, and spiritually and culturally appropriate approach to care
• Deliver individual psychosocial and spiritual support and counselling to individuals living with life-limiting illness, family caregivers, and people who are bereaved
• Provide appropriate opportunities for spiritual, religious, or cultural rituals
• Facilitate access to spiritual support through community faith and/or cultural groups
• Lead the delivery of remembrance events and facilitate support groups
• Provide one-on-one bereavement support/counselling and anticipatory grief support
• Identify and respond appropriately to risk, such as suicide ideation, complicated grief, and trauma responses, in collaboration with the clinical team
• In collaboration with the Volunteer Management department, offer support and mentorship to spiritual care volunteers
• Deliver spiritual care and grief education presentations and workshops
• Contribute to the development of evidence-informed psychosocial and spiritual programming and curriculum development

Requirements

• Certification with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) or equivalent work experience as recognized by the Hospice
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience delivering spiritual care
• Experience supporting end-of-life care and experience with bereavement counselling
• Experience supporting individuals from diverse cultural, spiritual, and religious worldviews
• Knowledge of and connection to a range of faith groups and faith leaders
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, with insurance covering driving for business purposes
• Vulnerable Sector Police check required

Qualifications

Benefits

• Salary range: $33.33 hourly to $41.02 hourly
• 12 days vacation, 4 personal days
