About the Role
The Pastoral Counselor provides counseling integrating psychological principles with spiritual perspectives to support individuals facing emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns, often within a religious or ministry setting.
Responsibilities
- Offer individual, couple, and family counseling using therapeutic techniques and spiritual guidance
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support during grief, trauma, or major life changes
- Incorporate faith-based elements such as prayer and scripture into counseling when appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in line with counseling and religious guidelines
- Collaborate with clergy, healthcare professionals, and community resources
- Conduct spiritual assessments and create personalized care plans
- Lead workshops, support groups, or educational sessions on stress, relationships, and spiritual growth
- Document client progress accurately
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, divinity, or related field
- Relevant counseling certification or licensure
- Ordination or endorsement by a recognized religious body (preferred or required)
- Knowledge of theological principles and counseling practices
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations and respect varying beliefs
