About the role
The Psychology Fellow position at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is responsible for providing supervised treatment of patients in multiple populations, including those with chronic psychiatric illness, somatic system disorders, and chronic pain and opioid dependency. This position requires demonstrating competence to adapt to diverse patient needs and involves participation in academic activities such as attending Grand Rounds at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Houston Methodist.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervised treatment of patients in multiple populations
- Adapt to work and customer service to accommodate unique patient needs
- Demonstrate clinical and research competency through involvement in academic activities
- Complete multiple projects throughout the year, including detailed diagnostic evaluations and case formulations
- Prepare and submit an empirical or theoretical article to a refereed journal
Qualifications
- PhD in Psychology or equivalent post-graduate degree
- No prior experience required

Essential Functions
- Direct supervision of two hours per week with a licensed clinical psychologist
- Collaborate with all members of the patient care team
- Attend team meetings to expose to various theoretical perspectives and improve department scores for employee engagement
- Ensure delivery of quality patient care while prioritizing patient safety
- Manage reporting and record-keeping functions within their realm of control
- Contribute to meeting/exceeding department and organization targets for patient satisfaction
- Ensure compliance and appropriate utilization of information technology resources
- Identify and escalate issues and opportunities for improvement
- Follow up on action items to ensure completion of assignments
- Contribute towards improving department/practice quality and safety scores
- Attend CME activities, Grand Rounds, and appropriate conferences
- Expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual process improvements
- Submit an empirical or theoretical article to a refereed journal by the conclusion of the fellowship
