About the role

The School Psychologist is primarily responsible to the Principals of assigned schools for providing psychological services to pupils, staff members, and patrons as directed by the Building Principal. The School Psychologist is also responsible to the Coordinator of Psychological Services for program development and diagnostic consultation.

Responsibilities

  • Makes observations of children in various school settings, identifies and interprets significant behavioral patterns to appropriate staff members, and suggests procedures to be followed in dealing with these children
  • Participates in the screening, pre-assessment, identification, placement, follow-up, and review of pupils for special education programs
  • Administers individual psychological tests and other assessment instruments as may be needed for comprehensive individual pupil evaluations, and re-evaluations
  • Interprets test results and observations of individual pupils to staff members concerned and relates these to classroom activities and procedures
  • Participates as a member of Child Study Team
  • Consults with Principals and school staff in the improvement of educational programs
  • Participates in the referral of children to other appropriate agencies for further study and/or assistance when appropriate, and acts as a liaison between the school and community professionals providing psychiatric and psychological services
  • Supports the mental health of pupils through individual and/or group psychological counseling, behavior management, and parent counseling

Requirements

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Equipment

  • This position may require the ability to use SMART boards, scoring software, and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine.
  • Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use.

Travel

  • Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.

Qualifications

  • Masters in School Psychology required
  • KSDE certification in school psychology - required
  • Education Specialist degree preferred
  • 2-3 Years experience preferred
