School Psychologist 2026 - 2027 School Year

Reports to: Director of Special Education. Position is based at the Administration Building, Special Education Department Office, with travel to various school sites.

Qualifications

• State Certified School Psychologist or Psychometrist
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• M.S. degree in Educational Psychology and at least 60 hours of post-graduate education in School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychometrics, or related fields
• Teaching experience is beneficial
• Computer skills required

About the Role

Performs professional-level duties under minimal supervision to assess and determine the most appropriate instruction and assist in the determination of eligibility for special education placement. The goal is to improve or maintain students’ academic functioning through identification and evaluation, and to identify an educationally appropriate program. This role requires discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment to systematically address complex problems.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the identification and initial referral of children with disabilities
• Performs full psychological assessment screenings and obtains background information from parents and students
• Participates in clinical comprehensive staffing and coordinates information flow to appropriate service providers
• Prepares comprehensive psychological reports and interprets test results to parents, teachers, counselors, principals, and students as appropriate
• Makes recommendations for intervention and serves as an IEP team member; attends categorical eligibility and IEP meetings
• Consults and instructs school personnel and parents in the therapeutic management of students; assists teachers with interim MEPTs and IEPs
• Consults with physicians, hospitals, and other medical personnel regarding student needs to access academic information
• Maintains confidential records of tests and interventions; provides documentation of progress and prepares evaluations and home program documentation
• Provides formal and informal in-service training to administrators, parents, and teachers
• Travels to various sites to provide services
• Attends workshops and continuing education to maintain certification
• Ensures compliance with I.D.E.A. and other ethical standards under Public Law 101-476
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Communication: Strong oral, written, and business communication skills, including composing correspondence, training others, providing complex instructions, conducting interviews, and making public presentations. Must interpret and translate facts, explain situations, and advise on alternative courses of action while maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards.
• Data Recording/Record Keeping: Maintains and updates electronic and physical records, including sensitive and confidential documents such as IEPs and medical records.
• Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets complex, sensitive, and confidential records.
• Business Machines and Testing Equipment: Operates testing equipment to perform assessments such as I.Q., achievement, perception, behavior, fine motor skills, and auditory tests.

Schedule

180-day contract, in compliance with the negotiated contract and state law.
