About the Role
Join a team of Psychiatrists providing consults to the pediatric unit and emergency department, with the flexibility to maintain a community-based practice on a part-time or full-time basis.
- Community child and adolescent mental health services in collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and community mental health services
- Child & Adolescent Psychiatry community mental health and inpatient services
- Developmental delay and mental health services
- Private child and adolescent psychiatry services in the community (options to be discussed with interested candidates)
- Service to KBRH’s 12-bed general adult inpatient unit, including on-call coverage
The team provides quality psychiatric care to residents throughout the Kootenay Boundary region. Community work involves supporting family physicians, pediatricians, and child & youth mental health services. The successful candidate may contribute to the development of a small Child & Adolescent Psychiatry inpatient unit.
Teaching opportunities are available for UBC students and Family Medicine/Psychiatry residents. Administrative leadership roles or subspecialty development (e.g., addictions) may also be pursued.

- Rural Specialist Locum Program (RSLP): Coverage for travel and accommodations per program guidelines, with a guaranteed daily rate of $1,875 (effective January 1, 2024). In A and B designated communities, the Rural Retention Program (RRP) fee premium increases the daily rate to $1,875–$2,437.

- Retention Premium: 11.48% of daily rate
- Retention Flat Fee: $17,790
- Relocation Funding: $9,000–$15,000 based on move location
- Recruitment Incentive: $15,000
- Rural CME: Up to $600 for the first 2 years, $3,600 in the 3rd and 4th years, and $6,600 after 4 years (subject to change)
- Student Loan Forgiveness: Eligibility for BC or Canada student loan forgiveness programs
Pay
Compensation is a combination of salary and incentives, with estimated remuneration ranging from $300,000 to $500,000, plus MOCAP. Overhead costs apply only to private practice.
