In this pivotal position, you’ll apply your expertise to a wide range of situations, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on your patients’ lives. You will be instrumental in enhancing the care provided at our 12-bed general adult inpatient unit, delivering essential consultations across medical and surgical units, as well as the emergency department, and nurturing a community-based practice. Beyond direct patient care, your engagement in comprehensive assessments and tailored treatment plans will be foundational to our mission.

With a steadfast commitment to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) guarantees personalized and comprehensive care for each member of our community. Our capabilities extend from providing round-the-clock emergency and trauma care to specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care.

Transitioning from emergency to specialized care, the expertise of our dedicated specialists encompasses areas like ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine.

Central to our mission is the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), which highlights our role as the regional hub, offering expert care to critically ill and injured patients.

Responsibilities

• Enhance care on a 12-bed general adult inpatient unit
• Provide essential consultations across medical and surgical units and the emergency department
• Nurture a community-based psychiatric practice
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored treatment plans
• Collaborate on the development, evaluation, and refinement of psychiatric programs, policies, and procedures
• Participate in innovative outreach and telehealth services
• Mentor, teach, and engage in educational activities with UBC medical school and family medicine residency

Compensation

As a general adult psychiatrist in Trail, you'll earn between $350,000–$550,000, thanks to the fee-for-service model, sessional contracts, and MOCAP level 2.

• Retention Flat Fee: $17,791
• Relocation Funding: $9,000 if moving within BC, $12,000 within Canada, and $15,000 from outside Canada
• Recruitment Incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
• Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) support: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during the 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to Doctors of BC CME funds
