New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for the role of Medical Director of the Center for Practice Innovation (CPI). CPI is an intermediary organization that supports OMH’s mission to promote the widespread availability of evidence-based practices to improve mental health services, ensure accountability, and promote recovery-oriented outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical and psychiatric input and consultation to CPI OMH initiatives.
- Participate in and lead the development of online learning modules and play a key role in supporting CPI’s Educational Unit.
- Collaborate with New York State Psychiatric Institute and other OMH facilities and programs.
- Serve as part of the CPI Leadership Team.
- Serve as a member of the ACT Institute Team.
Requirements
- License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State.
- Completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
- Candidates from within State Service may qualify with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
- Limited permit option: If licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, and meeting other requirements, a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State is acceptable. If appointed, the license must be obtained within one year of the permit’s issuance or removal from the position will result.

Pay
This position is eligible for a down state adjustment of $4,000.
Schedule
This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule.
Background checks will be required. Continued employment is dependent upon maintaining current licensure to practice medicine and, where applicable, current certification in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Loss of licensure or certification may result in removal from this position.
If appointed, you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider, obtain and provide a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number, and actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for billing through Medicare and Medicaid. Loss of this ability may result in termination.
