About the role
The County of San Mateo is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Psychiatric Social Worker I/II - Marriage & Family Therapist I/II Forensic Mental Health. This position requires current California registration as either an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical services to individuals, families, and groups in various settings including outpatient clinics, acute inpatient psychiatric units, home/field-based visits, schools, juvenile detention facilities, adult correctional facilities, primary care settings, and therapeutic environments for abused and neglected youth.
- Conduct telephone screenings and triage.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Assess client needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Engage in case management activities, including coordination of services and resources.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Document clinical encounters and maintain accurate records.
- Advocate for clients' rights and provide support in accessing necessary community resources.
Requirements
- Current California registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
- Experience working with forensic populations, including juveniles and adults involved in the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of forensic mental health principles and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid California license as an LCSW or LMFT.
- At least two years of post-graduate experience in forensic mental health.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including those from underrepresented communities.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and its application in clinical practice.
- Experience with crisis intervention and emergency response.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of forensic mental health laws and regulations.

Pay
$45.74 - $57.18 hourly
$7,928.27 - $9,911.20 monthly
$95,139.20 - $118,934.40 annually
