Psychiatric Nursing Asst III

About the role

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant III (PNA III) to join a team dedicated to providing specialized care and fostering recovery for Texans in need. This position is available at Vernon State Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Takes an active role in implementing individualized recovery plans and offering consistent support to patients.
• Uses therapeutic communication skills to engage patients and assist with activities of daily living.
• Communicates effectively with other team members and participates in shift reports and recovery team meetings.
• Performs delegated nursing duties and assists the licensed nurse with medication administration and vital sign monitoring.
• Provides verbal and written documentation concerning patient behaviors and progress towards goals.
• Trains and guides PNA I and II staff as needed.
• Responds appropriately to crisis situations under the supervision of an RN.

Requirements

• At least two (2) years of work experience.
• One year of psychiatric patient experience or direct care required.
• CPR certification or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of employment.

Qualifications

• Completion of a nursing aide course.
• Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively and provide patient care.
• Basic computer skills and ability to document patient care information.

Skills

• Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to take vital signs and perform other assigned tasks.
• Ability to provide first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations.

Pay

$3,649.83 - $4,594.50 per month

Schedule

Day shift, with up to 5% travel.
