About the role

As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at the New Hampshire State Prison for Men, you’ll provide comprehensive psychiatric care and serve as a vital member of the behavioral health team. Collaborating with medical, nursing, and mental health staff, you’ll assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions while supporting long-term recovery through structure, clarity, and compassionate care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of psychiatric conditions
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications and monitor therapeutic response
  • Order diagnostic tests and interpret lab results as needed for ongoing treatment
  • Provide education and counseling to patients on mental health, medications, and wellness
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure continuity of care
  • Document all clinical activity using the SOAP format in the EMR system
  • Provide consultation and support to mental health and nursing personnel
  • Perform psychiatric evaluations, mental status exams, and participate in facility rounds
  • Participate in staff education, orientation, and in-service mental health training
  • Support crisis response efforts and guide care interventions as clinically indicated

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Active unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification required
  • Active DEA and Controlled Substance license required at start date
  • Active CPR certification required at start date
  • Strong clinical judgement, emotional resilience, and a patient-focused mindset
