About the role

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) at MEDIKO provides high-quality psychiatric care to incarcerated individuals, collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team to ensure comprehensive mental health treatment and continuity of care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and risk screenings to diagnose mental health conditions and determine appropriate care.
  • Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans for patients with mental health and co-occurring disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with evidence-based guidelines, clinical protocols, and collaborative care practices.
  • Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality requirements, HIPAA guidelines, and ethical principles.
  • Collaborate closely with behavioral health staff, medical providers, and custody to support integrated care and ensure safety, continuity, and quality of services.
  • Participate in mental health multidisciplinary team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and case reviews.
  • Document promptly and properly.
  • Support professional development of nursing and mental health staff by providing consultation, mentorship, and clinical guidance on psychiatric conditions.
  • Participate in Call-by-Phone coverage rotation as assigned.
  • Promote a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and culturally competent approach to mental health care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to psychiatric care, mental health documentation, and outcomes monitoring.

Requirements

  • A current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice as an APRN in the State of Washington.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a concentration and certification in a Psychiatric-Mental Health discipline.
  • Hold a current, valid DEA Registration, or be willing to obtain DEA Registration.
  • Board Certification as PMHNP by a nationally recognized certifying body (e.g., ANCC).
  • Ability to conduct psychiatric evaluations, manage psychotropic medication, and provide crisis intervention, is essential.
  • Active CPR/BLS certification required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines) prior to start date.
  • Familiar with HIPAA, mental health standards of care, and applicable federal and state behavioral health regulations.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and ability to document efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Schedule

This is a Part Time position requiring 24 hours per week, On-site in Redding, CA.
