About the role

The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services and identify problem areas. Supervision: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provides physical, emotional, and/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner
• Liaison with various departments of LCMH to ensure patient safety and quality care based on patient needs
• Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques
• Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties (e.g., room inspections, patient search, belonging searches, monitor visitors for contraband)
• Communicates abnormal variances of physical data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff
• Communicates emotional and/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred
• Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons, or in providing personal care services
• Crisis Response Training, CPR
• Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers, and medical personnel
• Requires emotional stability and resilience
• Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight
• Exhibits organizational and leadership ability
• Shows ability to gain and maintain support and respect of co-workers

Work environment & physical demands

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting
• The work environment may be physically confining
• Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities
• Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds
• Ability to do shift work as required
