PSR Supervisor
This position serves as office supervisor for Internal Medicine Primary Care Clinics, functioning under the direction of the IM Primary Care Department Manager. The incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients, supervising a large group of employees, and ensuring accountability for the day-to-day operations of the designated clinic location(s).
About the Role
Collaborates with UC Davis clinics, UCD School of Medicine, and UCD Patient Contact Center to support the mission of training Internal Medicine residents passionate about primary care, education, advocacy, and scholarship. The program is committed to recruiting a diverse group of residents dedicated to primary care careers and health equity.
Responsibilities
- Staff Supervision (35%):
- Supervise a large group of employees, providing leadership and accountability for daily operations.
- Interview applicants using effective screening techniques and knowledge of standard hiring protocols.
- Objectively and constructively evaluate employee performance, provide training, conflict resolution, and administer disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
- Understand human motivation and needs to encourage employee development and initiative.
- Coordination of Daily Operations (25%):
- Oversee daily office operations, including facility, equipment, and supply needs.
- Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and systems.
- Maintain accurate records of patient financial transactions, prepare financial reports, balance cash boxes, and prepare deposits.
- Handle medical office procedures such as appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, and billing.
- Additional Job Functions (25%):
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource person for staff.
- Problem-solve independently to define issues, create viable solutions, and exercise delegated authority for prompt resolution.
- Seek appropriate assistance when the limit of delegated authority is reached.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patients, and the public with patience, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Project a professional and service-oriented attitude and instill this in staff.
- Communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with all levels of staff, patients, and providers.
- Computer System Operations (15%):
- Use computer systems for timely and accurate input, including typing and writing skills for composing clear, concise messages and correspondence.
- Maintain logs and files of information in alphabetical, chronological, and/or numerical order for easy retrieval.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- At least two (2) years of supervisory experience in a medical field or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Strong decision-making skills to supervise a unit of workers.
- Problem-solving skills to independently define issues and create viable solutions.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including handling individuals who may be angry or upset.

- Administrative skills to oversee daily operations, develop policies, and manage facility needs.
Skills
- Knowledge of medical office procedures, including medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, and billing.
- Filing skills to maintain logs and files for easy retrieval.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records, confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA.
- Knowledge of health care insurance systems (e.g., Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county-funded coverage, workers’ compensation) to obtain authorizations, schedule appointments, make referrals, and complete billing documentation.
- Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding to identify services performed, including diagnoses, procedures, and supplies.
- Understanding of industry process improvement methods to identify, plan, implement, and measure outcomes.
- Bookkeeping skills to maintain accurate financial records and prepare reports.
Pay
$2,743.30 - $4,896.55 biweekly.
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
