Protective Service Officer Unarmed - Ashland Emergency Department - PRN

About the role

Bon Secours is a faith-based and patient-focused organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of all people through exceptional patient care. The Protective Services Officer position supports the general safety of Bon Secours Medical Center (BSMH) facilities.

Responsibilities

• Protects patients, visitors, and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and mitigating safety hazards.
• Deters criminal activity through routine patrols of all hospital property, including parking lots and decks.
• Enforces policies such as parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, and tobacco-free/smoking policy.
• Maintains awareness of hospital activity through closed circuit television, alerting to any escalating situations requiring protective services involvement.
• Intervenes in patient, visitor, and/or staff confrontations as appropriate.
• Documents all duties performed, including daily activity logs and incident reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (required)
• Vocational/Technical Degree (preferred)
• Valid driver's license (required)
• BLS Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
• 1-2 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience (preferred)

Skills & Abilities

• Basic skills using Microsoft Word
• Proficiency in defensive tools and restraint equipment, in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies
• Strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software
• Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training required within 6 months of hire)
