Protection Officer (CSP) Palestine Gaza

About the role

The Protection Officer (CSP) will support the implementation of NRC’s Civilian Self-Protection programme in Gaza in line with NRC Protection from Violence standards, guidelines, and tools. The role involves working directly with affected communities to conduct participatory assessments, identify protection risks and barriers to services, facilitate CSP trainings, and support the development and implementation of community action plans. The position requires close coordination with community structures, local leaders, service providers, partner organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines, and Protection from Violence Core Competency (CC) strategy, tools, handbooks, and standards.
• Implement technical activities of the CC project(s) and maintain project documentation.
• Provide technical analysis and feedback in coordination forums.
• Assess, promote, and document ideas for technical improvement and further programme development.
• Ensure projects target participants most in need and explore new ways to assist.
• Promote the rights of affected populations in line with the advocacy strategy.
• Contribute to implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming Minimum Standards.
• Carry out CSP activities, including assessments, trainings, and community action plans, with provision of psychosocial support and referrals as needed.
• Report internally on workplans, achievements, and challenges.
• Maintain accurate and confidential CSP files, including community databases and protection information management tools.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including partner agencies, community leaders, and service providers.
• Prepare procurement or payment requests for material assistance and ensure project documents are saved offline and online.
• Participate in mapping exercises and assessments to identify protection risks and needs using participatory data collection tools.
• Identify barriers to access services, document, and report on them.
• Monitor and assess safety and security in the field, reporting concerns promptly.
• Participate in needs assessments, field support visits, and emergency response efforts as needed.
• Undertake any other reasonable tasks assigned by management.

Requirements

• At least two years of professional experience in the humanitarian sector with international organizations.
• At least two years' experience implementing social work, community engagement, human rights, or a related degree; knowledge of human rights and protection.
• Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.
• Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, work independently, prioritize under pressure, and maintain attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Advanced level of Arabic, both written and verbal; English is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of basic counselling and psychosocial support concepts; previous training in these areas strongly preferred.
• Understanding of rights and protection issues of target populations; experience working with affected populations is an advantage.

Schedule

• 38 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday (5 days per week).

Pay

Salary and benefits are based on NRC’s Gaza Duty Station scale (Grade 05, Step 01).
