About the role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Protection & Control Technician to join our team and play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the reliability of our electrical systems. If you enjoy hands-on work, solving complex problems, and working with high-voltage equipment, this is a role where your expertise truly matters.

Responsibilities

  • Test, maintain, troubleshoot, and commission protection and control systems for high-voltage transmission and distribution substations.
  • Program, configure, and verify operation of protective relays and associated control equipment.
  • Install, inspect, and maintain substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, CTs, PTs, TRUs, IEDs, batteries, and AC/DC power systems.
  • Perform electrical testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of circuit breakers, reclosers, generator circuit breakers (69kV–345kV), and transformer tap changer controls.
  • Interpret and update electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and protection logic documentation.
  • Analyze relay event records, disturbance data, and test results to diagnose equipment issues and support corrective actions.
  • Install and validate relay protection schemes.
  • Implement and verify settings changes from engineering teams.
  • Install and maintain associated equipment such as recorders and transducers.
  • Support installation of control house equipment.
  • Run conduit and terminate control wiring in substations.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing and equipment documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of electrical or substation mechanical experience.
  • Completion of a relevant 2-year electrical certification program or degree may partially substitute for experience.
  • Must live within a 45-minute response time to Brazos Electric regional office for emergency response.
