About the role

The Property Accountant will support a diversified portfolio of residential and commercial properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely month-end close. This role supports the full-cycle accounting process and partners closely with Property Management, Investment Management, and leadership teams within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Support property management operations with day-to-day accounting questions, daily processes, and related inquiries.
  • Prepare annual financial statements with supporting workpapers.
  • Assist in completing month-end close, including journal entries and various account reconciliations.
  • Analyze portfolio performance and provide variance explanations for operational teams.
  • Review tenant ledgers, rent rolls, delinquency reports, and commercial tenant billings.
  • Assist with preparation and reconciling annual CAM and operating expense escalations for commercial tenants.
  • Collaborate with property managers to resolve tenant accounting questions and disputes.
  • Partner with property management to develop annual budgets and reforecasts.
  • Run and compile various ad hoc reports as needed.
  • Support other property management accountants and assist with assigned projects as needed.
  • Communicate financial information clearly to non-accounting stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (but not required).
  • 2+ years of accounting experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the property management industry (residential and/or commercial) is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Experience with property management/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional presence.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
