Property Accountant
About the role
We are looking for a Property Accountant to support a real estate organization in New York, New York on a Contract basis. This opportunity is well suited for a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can manage property-level financial activities with accuracy, maintain organized records, and contribute to timely reporting. The role will focus on core accounting operations, close processes, and financial oversight for assigned properties in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activity for assigned real estate assets, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
- Prepare and complete monthly close tasks, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and review of financial results.
- Maintain the general ledger and verify that balances, classifications, and supporting documentation are accurate.
- Use Yardi software to process property accounting transactions, generate reports, and support financial record management.
- Assist with audit preparation by organizing schedules, reconciling accounts, and responding to documentation requests.
- Review financial data for variances or discrepancies and investigate issues to help maintain reliable reporting.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to support reporting deadlines and ensure property financial information is up to date.
Requirements
- Experience in property accounting within a real estate or related environment.
- Proficiency with Yardi software for accounting and financial reporting activities.
- Strong understanding of month-end close procedures, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statement support.
- Prior involvement in audit support, including preparation of schedules and account documentation.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
