Project Scheduler
This posting is for a contract assignment; candidates selected will be employed as contract workers through Amazon’s approved third-party provider for the duration of the specified project.
About the role
You will be part of a creative, diverse team tasked with solving challenging problems, working alongside partner teams such as Engineering, Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to directly support our customers. As a Construction Project Scheduler, you will review and develop construction schedules, collaborate with general contractors and Construction Managers on schedule planning, activity coordination, and monitoring. You will identify potential scheduling delays and facilitate remedial action, prepare project progress and performance evaluation reports, and adjust timetables to mitigate unanticipated delays.
Responsibilities
- Consult with Construction Managers, general contractors, and suppliers to set up assignments, tasks, subtasks, and milestones.
- Develop and maintain detailed resource-loaded schedules for Design/Build construction projects.
- Guide contractors to develop and follow a standard planned/actual progress reporting procedure in line with agreed rules of credit and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
- Design and develop project schedules for new, ambiguous projects during initial planning, conceptual design, schematics progress, and design development.
- Analyze critical path and earned value to determine the effect of changes and delays to the schedule and recommend work-arounds.
- Perform delay analysis of vendor and contractor schedules for mitigation.
- Review new designs for impact on the baseline schedule.
- Conduct analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules.
- Recommend actions to keep projects within budget and completed on time.
- Identify potential project schedule delays and facilitate fixes quickly.
- Troubleshoot and monitor potential scheduling problems.
- Identify and anticipate schedule disparities and correct them.
- Accommodate updates and changes to project schedules.
- Gather and analyze information to prepare reports on project progress.
- Conduct frequent on-site visits to review construction progress.
- Collaborate with the project management team to drive consistency in project scheduling and facilitate accuracy in execution and reporting.
- Facilitate and participate in weekly schedule reviews.
- Provide due date notifications of upcoming deadlines with a brief summary of tasks due in the coming week.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in project management or a related field OR 5-8 years of related construction project scheduling experience in lieu of a degree.
- 8-10 years’ experience as a construction project scheduler for large commercial, mission-critical, or industrial projects.
- 8-10 years’ experience using project scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- 8-10 years of experience working in the construction industry with 5-8 years of relevant on-site construction experience.
- Experience developing a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based on the scope of work and construction packages of a large-scale industrial project.
- 5% travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Skills in Primavera P6, Asta Power Project, and Excel.
- Knowledge of the scope and construction life cycle sequencing of project schedules.
- Experience and proven ability with Earned Value Management of project schedules.
- Experience and proven ability with Critical Path analysis.
- Organizational, analytical, and writing skills, including solid experience in writing functional and technical specifications.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles including switchgear, UPS, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems.
- Experience directly related to the design or construction of critical infrastructure or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants.
- Able to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings for all disciplines.
- Review of schedule quality using DCMA 14-point assessment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present schedules and program matters to non-technical team members.
- Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth and complexity requirements for this role.
