About the role

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a Water/Wastewater background for the Brevard County & Indian River County, FL area. The successful candidate will oversee the overall performance of projects from the estimating/pre-construction phase to successful completion, ensuring safety, owner satisfaction, cost control, schedule adherence, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with clients, architects, and engineers to encourage repeat business.
  • Maintain a positive company image with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Partner with Preconstruction Services on value engineering, constructability, bid solicitation, estimating, and proposal generation.
  • Set up and maintain project cost accounting.
  • Develop and maintain the project schedule.
  • Support permitting, testing, and inspection requirements.
  • Familiarize with owner contract requirements and delivery methods.
  • Negotiate subcontractor agreements and equipment/material purchase orders.
  • Develop a Schedule of Values and generate monthly payment applications.
  • Review and approve subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices.
  • Track and evaluate subcontractor change management.
  • Facilitate subcontractor and owner coordination/progress meetings and document meeting minutes.
  • Manage execution of contracts, bonds, insurance certificates, compliance, and warranties.
  • Monitor submittal, shop drawing, and purchase order processes for timely delivery of equipment and materials.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, cost reports, and job progress; review with the project team weekly.
  • Visit jobsites regularly to review progress, production planning, quality of work, and safety.
  • Manage change orders, extra work orders, and disputed claims with owners and representatives.
  • Resolve major disputes with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Manage startup and commissioning of facilities, where applicable.
  • Provide owner training and turnover contract close-out deliverables.
  • Review and report project financial information, performance, and conflicts to the Division Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant field.
  • Relevant water/wastewater construction experience.
  • Experience managing self-perform crews is preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in engineering, construction, or a related field.
  • Proven success in completing multimillion-dollar projects.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computer-based CPM scheduling programs.
  • Experience with construction management software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
