Project Manager – Transmission, Distribution, and Substation (Pacific NW)

About the role

Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization, delivering a cleaner and more secure energy future. This position offers the opportunity to manage and grow a project team of engineers involved in all phases—from concept to engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out—of new and modified high-voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities in the power industry.

As a lead across a multi-disciplinary team, you will ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects while adhering to client expectations. Responsibilities include preparing and updating financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports; leading project meetings; managing client relationships; monitoring project risks; coordinating engineering design and quality reviews; resolving field issues; tracking compliance; supporting siting/permitting efforts; and facilitating contractor sourcing activities. You will also contribute to business development by pursuing opportunities with existing and new clients and supporting proposal development.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow a project team through all phases of high-voltage transmission, substation, and distribution projects.
• Prepare and update financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports on a weekly or monthly basis.
• Lead project meetings, document minutes, and distribute action items to team members.
• Manage client relationships to ensure expectations are understood and met.
• Monitor projects to minimize risk and adhere to budget, schedule, scope, and quality standards.
• Manage project communications and promptly respond to inquiries from client management or support teams.
• Notify stakeholders immediately if projects exceed approved budgets or schedules or if significant risks arise.
• Perform project administrative activities, including purchase and change orders, work status verification, invoice reviews, and updating project status.
• Coordinate engineering design development, drawing submittals, and quality review processes.
• Resolve emergent field issues in compliance with codes, environmental, and safety requirements.
• Track and manage project compliance (regulatory and non-regulatory).
• Support resolution of siting/permitting, municipality, and abutter issues.
• Facilitate contractor sourcing activities, including issuing RFPs, bid analysis, and award recommendations.
• Lead business development efforts with existing or new clients.
• Support Jacobs’ operational and business development teams with proposals or materials for new opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management/business degree.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience managing electric power projects involving high-voltage transmission lines, cables, and/or substations.
• Specific experience in managing and delivering high-voltage power transmission, distribution, and/or substation projects for utilities, grid-scale energy facilities, large commercial, or government facilities.
• Experience managing all phases of high-voltage projects from early-stage authorization to commissioning and close-out.
• Understanding of multi-disciplinary project delivery teams, including electrical, civil, structural, environmental, siting/permitting, commissioning, testing, and general contractor scopes.
• Experience with document control, project control, and cost control software used in the utility industry.
• Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams across multiple organizational levels, including owners, third-party engineers, and contractors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellence in developing and delivering presentation materials.
• Proven verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proposal development, negotiation, and consensus-building.
• Experience with general project management processes in the utility industry.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and attend client meetings.

Qualifications (Desired)

• PMP Certification.
• Previous Program or Project Management role delivering HV Substations and Transmission Lines for Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs) in the U.S.
• Engineering degree and FE or PE License.
• Construction, commissioning, and start-up experience.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $154,700.00 to $203,100.00. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
