Project Manager – Transmission, Distribution, and Substation (Central/Northern California)
About the role
Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization, delivering a cleaner and more secure energy future. This position offers the opportunity to manage and grow a project team involved in all phases of high voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities—from concept through engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure successful project delivery, adhering to client expectations and industry standards. The role is hybrid, based in the Central/Northern California area, with candidates required to be local or open to extensive travel (50%+).
Responsibilities
- Prepare and update financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports as required by the client’s Project Management process.
- Lead project meetings, document minutes, and distribute action items to the project team.
- Manage client relationships to ensure expectations are understood and met.
- Collaborate with the broader Jacobs team to maintain positive client relationships and resolve concerns.
- Monitor projects to minimize risk, adhere to budget, schedule, scope, and quality, and mitigate risks as they arise.
- Manage project communications and respond promptly to client inquiries.
- Notify stakeholders immediately if a project is forecast to exceed budget or schedule or if significant risks arise.
- Perform or facilitate project administrative tasks, including purchase orders, change orders, invoice reviews, and status updates.
- Coordinate engineering design development, drawing submittals, and quality reviews.
- Resolve emergent field issues in compliance with codes, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Track and manage project compliance (regulatory and non-regulatory).
- Support resolution of siting, permitting, municipality, or abutter issues.
- Facilitate contractor sourcing, including issuing RFPs, bid analysis, and award recommendations.
- Develop and pursue business opportunities with existing or new clients.
- Support Jacobs’ operational and business development teams with proposals and materials for new opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management/business degree.
- 5+ years of experience managing projects in distribution planning, protection, and reliability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proposal development, negotiation, and consensus-building.
- Experience with utility industry project management processes.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and client meetings.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $117,300 to $160,000. Individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
