Project Manager – Transmission, Distribution, and Substation (Central/Northern California)
About the role
Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization, delivering a cleaner and more secure energy future. This position offers the opportunity to manage and grow a project team of engineers involved in all phases—from concept to engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out—of new and modified high-voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities in the power industry.
This role is hybrid in the Central/Northern California area. Candidates must be local to the area or open to extensive travel (50%+).
Responsibilities
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure successful delivery of assigned projects, adhering to client expectations.
- Prepare and update financial forecasts, project schedules, and reports on a weekly or monthly basis as required by the client’s project management process.
- Lead project meetings, arrange meeting minutes, and distribute notes and actions to all project team members.
- Manage client relationships to ensure expectations are understood and met, including resolving any client concerns.
- Monitor projects to minimize risk, adhere to budget, schedule, scope, and quality, and identify/mitigate risks as they arise.
- Manage project communications and promptly respond to inquiries from client management or support teams.
- Notify stakeholders immediately if the project is forecast to exceed approved budget or schedule or if significant risks/issues arise.
- Perform or facilitate project administrative activities, including purchase and change orders, work status verification, invoice reviews, and updating project status.
- Coordinate engineering design development, drawing submittals, and quality review processes.
- Manage resolution of emergent field issues in accordance with codes, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Track and manage project compliance (non-regulatory and regulatory).
- Support resolution of siting/permitting, municipality, and/or abutter issues.
- Facilitate contractor sourcing activities, including issuing RFPs, bid analysis, and award recommendations.
- Develop and pursue business opportunities with existing or new clients.
- Support Jacobs’ operational and business development teams with proposals or materials for new opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management/business degree.
- 5 years’ experience managing projects in distribution planning, protection, and reliability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Excellence in developing and delivering presentation materials.
- Proven verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including proposal development, negotiation, and consensus-building.
- Experience and training with general project management processes used within the utility industry.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and/or attend client meetings.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $117,300.00 to $160,000.00. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
