About the role
The Project Manager I – Traffic at HNTB leads impactful traffic engineering projects across New England and beyond. Based in South Portland, ME or Bedford, NH, you’ll work with Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont DOTs, as well as the Maine Turnpike Authority. Projects span planning, traffic studies, traffic signal and ITS engineering, microsimulation, and real-time operational strategies. You’ll also get involved in field work, maintenance of traffic for complex bridge projects, and more.
Responsibilities
- Develop project scope and fee quotations, assist in preparing technical proposals and contracts, and negotiate contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
- Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
- Implement HNTB's project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
- Lead the development and execution of the project management plan, supervise and mentor the team to achieve project objectives.
- Coordinate with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; develop a plan for project staff reporting; and support performance and compensation reviews.
- Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
- Work with the project team and marketing resources to prepare proposal and presentation materials, lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects, and prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials.
- May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including development of a plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 8 years of relevant experience
- 2 years task management or Deputy PM experience
Preferred
- Experience managing transportation projects from planning through delivery
- Knowledge of traffic engineering and planning principles, including signal design, ITS, and traffic modeling
- Familiarity with project management tools and processes to monitor budgets, schedules, and deliverables
- Prominent ability to lead and inspire collaboration across disciplines
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and PTOE
