About the Role

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks to hire 2 individuals who are enthusiastic about advancing building decarbonization to join the Technical Services team as a Project Manager, Project Manager II, or Senior Project Manager. This interdisciplinary team is part of the Clean and Resilient Buildings unit, engaging with both private and public sectors to increase the adoption of building energy efficiency and electrification across New York State. The team operates programs such as FlexTech and OnSite Energy Manager, providing objective technical analysis to help building owners make informed clean energy investments.

The Project Managers will manage project-related activities for Technical Services programs from concept and design through execution. Responsibilities include project management, reporting, budgeting, contract management, stakeholder relationships, and developing interventions to overcome market barriers and accelerate clean energy adoption. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, enjoys stakeholder interaction, and has a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships to ensure NYSERDA’s interests are promoted and protected in accordance with state procurement policies.
  • Develop Statements of Work, oversee tasks and deliverables, and approve invoices for assigned contracts.
  • Manage buildings projects, studies, and installations.
  • Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders.
  • Maintain knowledge of NYSERDA programs to identify internal coordination opportunities and inform stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage relationships with service providers, engineers, and consultants to accelerate decarbonization investments.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture.
  • Develop and implement high-impact interventions to leverage project opportunities.
  • Identify barriers and opportunities through analysis and research.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for budgets and intervention impacts using spreadsheet tools.
  • Manage initiative implementation, monitor performance, and provide recommendations based on analysis and market feedback.
  • Develop RFP, PON, and other solicitation documents to meet program objectives and ensure alignment with funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with NYSERDA staff across Albany, Buffalo, and NYC.
  • Perform all job responsibilities with respect, fairness, consistency, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, public or business administration, architecture, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in building energy efficiency or a related field:
    • Project Manager: 5 years (Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience).
    • Project Manager II: 6 years (Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience).
    • Senior Project Manager: 7 years (Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience).
  • Knowledge of building electrification, resiliency, energy management, regulatory proceedings, and environmental/economic impacts across housing, commercial, institutional, and/or industrial sectors.
  • Understanding of policies, building science, engineering, and construction market issues for residential and commercial buildings.
  • Familiarity with building systems and high-efficiency technologies such as high-performance envelopes, geothermal heat pumps, and cold-climate heat pumps.
  • Exemplary program and project management skills, including prioritization, workplan development, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a proactive and collaborative style.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and planning skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn new information quickly and think holistically through complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other teams.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate persuasively and concisely.
  • Self-starter who functions well independently and in teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Adobe Pro, and Salesforce.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% across New York State.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification in energy, building science, or engineering.
  • Experience with data analysis and proficiency in Salesforce, Tableau, or MS Project.

Pay

  • Project Manager: $81,858 – $137,206
  • Project Manager II: $97,874 – $137,206
  • Senior Project Manager: $120,471 – $152,238
