About the Role

Provide engineering technical development, oversight, project execution, and project management responsibilities in support of new, commercially driven projects as well as sustaining projects. The candidate will coordinate and communicate with various Tallgrass commercial and operational groups to support business development, applying basic engineering analytical concepts to develop project and engineering/execution plans for successful project completion to meet business objectives. Additionally, the candidate will lead the improvement and further development of Project Controls processes to ensure proper cost and schedule controls are in place.

Work with Tallgrass’s customers, the general public, government agencies, and other stakeholders to communicate project goals and objectives, advancing projects from concept through design/engineering, construction, and into operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects to assure safety, reliability, environmental, and human impacts are mitigated while meeting project goals (including schedule, budget, safety, and overall quality).
  • Create long- and short-term plans, set targets for milestones, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Delegate tasks to internal or external resources best positioned to complete them.
  • Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for project progression.
  • Serve as a point of contact for teams to ensure synergy among multiple units working on the same project.
  • Communicate with executives or the board to align the project with organizational goals.
  • Perform quality control throughout project development to maintain expected standards.
  • Adjust schedules and targets as needs or financing for the project change.
  • Serve as an on-site representative for operational, commercial, expansion, and development projects.
  • Provide preliminary work scopes, estimates, and budgeting details for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate the bidding process to ensure competitive and effective costing.
  • Provide project management to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Advise management on progress toward project objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.
  • Promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient, and cost-effective operations.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, Tallgrass staff, and others as required.
  • Create bid packages and scopes for contractors and vendors.
  • Interact with contractors throughout the bid, selection, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide hands-on field management with full responsibility for capital and maintenance projects.
  • Interact with maintenance and operations during concept, design, construction, and completion for smooth turnover.
  • Meet deadlines set by commercial commitments and operations.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with Federal, State, and Local Regulations.
  • Follow all Tallgrass Policies and Procedures and best practices.
  • Focus on Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams, including Project Engineers, Planning Engineers, Operation Engineers, and Environmental Engineers.
  • Create and direct controls for assigned projects.
  • Provide or direct appropriate project documentation to ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state, and other governing bodies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on project proposals, descriptions, and status to upper management, governmental agencies, and/or the public.
  • Provide accurate monthly project cash flow forecasts.
  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
  • Travel is required and anticipated as 10-15% across a broad geographic region.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage multiple capital and operational projects concurrently to meet customer needs.
  • Organize projects in the Company’s financial control system, review and manage expenditures and commitments, and prepare monthly cost control reports.
  • Assist Business Development and Operations by preparing project scopes, cost estimates, and execution plans for new and expansion projects.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and consistently high performance.
  • Work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, company assets, employees, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • 12 years of relevant job experience for Senior Project Manager role.
  • 10 years of experience in a Major Projects environment with direct work in engineering or project management of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipeline or facility projects, including high-pressure gas and liquid transmission, metering, compression, pump stations, storage, truck loading terminals, gathering, treating, and processing.
  • Full complement of project management skills, including project scoping, estimating using work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting.
  • Basic understanding of midstream and downstream projects.
  • Experience executing large midstream pipeline, compressor and pump stations, and marine export terminal projects.
  • Executed at least one Major Capital Project with a Total Installed Cost (TIC) of USD 200MM or more.
  • Extensive experience developing Major Projects with a development portfolio of USD 1 Billion.
  • Strong analytical skills required to develop concepts in partnership with Commercial teams.
  • Prior experience leading Project Controls, cost and schedule management tools, and successful implementation.
  • Lead Cost Control management with extensive reporting background to upper management.
  • Advanced experience using Primavera for schedule development, tracking, and control.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including presenting ideas, proposals, and results to business leaders and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, manage large projects, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • General understanding of corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes related to the Pipeline business segment.
  • Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.
  • Ability to establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and various state counterparts.
  • Familiarity with DOT, NEC, ASME, API, ASTM, and other specifications, standards, and recommended practices in the natural gas or hazardous liquid transportation industry.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for travel.

Physical Demands

  • Minimal safety hazards; general office working conditions.

Working Conditions

The majority of the typical workday is spent in an office environment, though this may vary depending on the location assignment. Fieldwork may be required.
