About the Opportunity
A highly respected commercial general contractor with a longstanding reputation for delivering complex, high-profile projects is seeking a Project Manager to join its growing team in the Chicagoland area.
Position Summary
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of project delivery, including preconstruction, estimating coordination, budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor management, and client relations. Working closely with field leadership, this individual will help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage project teams, maintain strong stakeholder relationships, and drive successful project outcomes with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, and trade partners.
- Lead preconstruction activities including conceptual estimating, budgeting, bid coordination, and value engineering efforts.
- Manage project procurement, subcontractor buyout, contract negotiations, and subcontract administration.
- Partner with Superintendents to develop and maintain project schedules and construction execution plans.
- Monitor project costs, forecasts, and financial performance to ensure profitability objectives are achieved.
- Review and manage change orders, project risks, and potential cost exposures.
- Ensure compliance with insurance, bonding, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
- Capture internal resources across estimating, accounting, operations, safety, and project support teams.
- Lead project meetings and provide consistent communication to all stakeholders.
- Oversee project closeout activities, including punch list completion, final documentation, and owner turnover.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- 5-10 years of commercial construction project management experience.
- Proven experience successfully managing projects from preconstruction through completion.
- Strong understanding of estimating, scheduling, budgeting, contract administration, and project controls.
- Ability to lead teams, solve problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial construction practices, industry standards, and project delivery methods.
Preferred Background
- Candidates coming from established commercial general contractors with experience managing large-scale projects in sectors such as healthcare, education, corporate interiors, multifamily, hospitality, mixed-use, mission critical, life sciences, or technology will be highly attractive.
- Experience overseeing projects ranging from several million dollars to over $100M in value is preferred.
