About the Role

Responsible for taking a direct leadership role in accomplishing the mission and expanding the business unit through successful project management. Oversees all aspects of project management through Commissioning levels 1-5, including client management, project team leadership, financial oversight, and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as Competent Person managing safety on projects, ensuring team members complete project-specific safety training, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and weekly toolbox training.
  • Utilizes company accounting, project management, and resource planning systems to forecast project resource requirements, billing projections, and expenses.
  • Updates project information proactively and resolves resource conflicts.
  • Manages project finances, including budgeting, expenditures, accounts payable/receivable, revenue projections, and project closeout.
  • Creates and manages the budgeting process, including estimating, value engineering, and managing client expectations.
  • Explains financial variances throughout the project cycle.
  • Represents company interests in service delivery per contractual requirements and standards.
  • Creates and manages an overall milestone schedule, incorporating owner, design, and construction team activities.
  • Manages multiple team members, including project managers, client representatives, vendors, contractors, and end users.
  • Plans and manages multiple concurrent activities to achieve project results.
  • Completes project opening and close-out processes, including commissioning reports, as-built documentation, operations/maintenance manuals, and lessons learned.
  • Maintains company proprietary interests during client communications.
  • Responds to new project opportunities, presents proposals, and develops relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Manages document control and ensures constant communication with stakeholders.
  • Leads, supervises, and mentors field technical staff and project resources.
  • Manages transitions for new clients and new team relationships.
  • Manages diverse commissioning levels to achieve Scope of Work (SOW) and budget.
  • Expands current service offerings and identifies opportunities for additional services.
  • Trains and develops project managers (PM-2 level and below) in technical concepts and advanced project management strategies.
  • Identifies professional development opportunities for self and team.
  • Participates in business development functions to represent the company.
  • Supervises approximately 10 employees in a non-direct report relationship, including training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university, or 8-10 years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
  • First responder (first aid + CPR) certification (company-provided).
  • OSHA 30 or local jurisdiction equivalent (company-provided).
  • NFPA 70E – Arc flash training (company-provided).
  • Code of ethics training (company-provided).
  • Additional safety training (company-provided).

Skills

  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, accounting, scheduling, and project management software.
  • Mastery of the psychrometric chart and energy transfers (heat, hydronic, air, electricity, kinetic).
  • Mastery of Ohm’s law and application.
  • Knowledge of contracts and Scope of Work (SOW) for managed projects.
  • Understanding of CxE-2 level technical concepts.
  • Strong time management, active listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to monitor and assess performance of self and others.
  • Ability to evaluate costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Ability to travel by car and airplane, with up to 2 contiguous weeks of travel (not exceeding 50% of annual hours).
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people, and provide fair, objective feedback.

Physical Demands

Offsite Work Environment: Regular use of hands; frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing; occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; occasional lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception vision. Noise level is usually quiet.

Onsite Work Environment: In addition to offsite demands, regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical components, energized electrical components, high/precarious places, fumes, extreme temperatures, and risk of electrical shock. Noise level is usually loud, requiring hearing protection.

Schedule

This position may require working more than 8 hours per day and potentially on weekends, depending on project assignments.
