About the role

The Project Manager II - Planning leads complex environmental planning projects and is responsible for managing assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle. This position provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff, manages project risks and change management, and serves as a subject matter expert in environmental planning and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develops the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serves as the primary client liaison and manages the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Learns and participates in client contract scoping and negotiations.
  • Leads or actively participates in the development and execution of the project management plan.
  • Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Manages project staffing, including recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession of project staff; supports performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships and pursuit efforts for mini-mega and mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
  • Prepares, reviews, or manages environmental documentation such as Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and technical studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field and 10 years relevant experience.
  • 2 years of successful management of projects.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of environmental review requirements, including NEPA, SEPA, and related permitting processes.
  • Experience in preparing, reviewing, or managing environmental documentation such as Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and technical studies.

Skills

  • Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi-disciplined projects.
  • Identifying and handling risk and change management with guidance from more experienced staff.
  • Leading a team on mid-sized and/or moderately complex projects inside and outside of HNTB using sub-consultants.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, biologists, planners, and other technical specialists.
  • Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver mid-sized and/or moderately complex projects.
  • Leading with minimal assistance from the Office Management Team in implementing HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
  • Serving as the lead interface with the client on moderately complex projects.
  • Serving as a technical resource and subject matter expert for environmental planning and compliance.
  • Mentoring junior staff and provide guidance on environmental review processes.
  • Developing successors to work with same client on other work.

Pay

The approximate pay range for the Greater Seattle, WA Metro Area is $152,341.01 - $238,276.98.
