Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Faculty and Research Director(s) to implement research team directives and serve as a liaison to internal and external entities.
  • Partner with the PI to set research program’s strategic goals, to develop specific scientific/operational plans to achieve those goals and to lead/manage the execution of those plans.
  • Manage multiple research projects (e.g., Microbiome Research Initiative (MRI) Microbiome repository) in conjunction with PI and, as applicable IDS administrative staff, set project goals and milestones and working with investigators to maintain a realistic timeline and support budget needs as the project matures.
  • Manage and organize meetings including the Microbiome Working Group, research roundtables, monthly seminar series, and large scientific symposia, developing meeting agendas and minutes, monitoring activities to ensure objectives have been met within designated timeframe, and coordinating follow-up activities.
  • Develop, employ and manage all internal and external communication tools for the research team(s), including web-based videoconferencing, network data sharing, and sites for hosting computational tools.
  • Serve as project liaison for MRI, representing project to other Center departments, funding sources, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations.
  • Give presentations and status updates on project achievements, as necessary.
  • Aid in managing various aspects of grant preparation process in conjunction with PI and IDS Finance Team, producing accompanying reports and technical/non-technical sections, assembling proposals, and reviewing proposals for accuracy prior to submission.
  • Coordinate with IDS Finance team, NIH program officials and non-sponsored funding officials on grant/contract application and renewal process, annual progress reports, and assembling grants and contracts budgets, as well as writing background and support sections of grants/contracts as required.
  • Provide direct support to the faculty member; coordinate research operations, prepare background information in preparation for faculty’s professional commitments and meetings; maintain calendar and establish priorities; coordinate arrangements for meetings at destination; screen, prioritize, and distribute mail.
  • Maintain reference database and filing system for faculty member(s) including, but not limited to professional CV’s and Biosketches, Other Support Information, Manuscripts, Endnote and other documentation. Ensure that all information is up to date, as needed.

Qualifications

  • A cover letter is required to be considered for this role.
  • Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS in related field or equivalent experience required. Minimum of three years post-master's or five years post-bachelor's related project/study management experience in a research setting. Grant and contract experience. Strong supervisory skills and budgeting experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Formal training in Project Management desired. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with a high level of productivity and strong organizational skills. High level of accountability—drives for results, displays a sense of ownership, and is passionate about attaining goals and surpassing expectations.
