About the Role

Manage Engineering and Construction Projects in the Renewable Energy Division. Lead project teams as the single point of accountability for all aspects of project execution. The Project Manager is responsible for all phases of planning and executing projects to meet the company's goals with respect to schedule, financial, and operating performance. Duties include conflict resolution between the company and engineering, construction, equipment, and material providers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of multiple Renewable energy capital projects.
  • Manage project scope, cost, time, risk, quality, procurement, communications, and human resources to drive project execution and meet project objectives.
  • Oversee project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and close-out.
  • Accountable for project performance measured by safety, schedule, financial, and operating goals.
  • Ensure Tampa Electric’s Contractor Safety Management Program (CSMP) is understood and followed by contractors and their subcontractors. Adhere to Tampa Electric safety practices and review contractors’ ISN ratings routinely.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline engineers, construction supervisors, procurement personnel, project planners, and project controls analysts to support project, company, and department goals.
  • Manage project communications, including identifying stakeholders, facilitating meetings, delivering presentations, resolving issues, and communicating sensitive information tactfully.
  • Provide accurate project status reporting, including updates on cost, schedule, status, and critical items affecting project performance.
  • Present project status to management and key stakeholders regularly.

Project Manager I Qualifications

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Business, Construction, Engineering, or a related field (will be considered in lieu of 4 years of related work experience).

Licenses/Certifications

  • Preferred: Professional Engineering License, PMP (PMI – Project Management Professional) certification.

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the utility industry with a focus on scheduling, budgeting, cost controls, and contract negotiations.
  • Preferred: Experience managing general construction and/or engineering contracts; experience with facility improvements and maintenance/upgrades.

Supervisory Experience

  • Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Required: Ability to lead and motivate others; strong communication and teamwork skills; solid understanding of solar utility construction and operations.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of work management systems, project management, scheduling, cost control systems, and solar construction experience.

Project Manager II Additional Responsibilities and Qualifications

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage increasingly complex projects involving capital improvements, maintenance projects, process changes, and/or new process projects.

Additional Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the utility industry with a focus on detailed project scheduling and oversight, budgeting, cost controls, and contract claims negotiations.

Additional Supervisory Experience

  • Preferred: Minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience.

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Required: Proven ability to develop detailed project schedules and project cost control systems; ability to analyze schedule and/or cost information and take corrective actions; knowledge of requirements to contract and manage outside Engineering/Consulting organizations for completion of multidiscipline projects.
  • Preferred: Skilled at identifying the readiness of a project team and able to refocus, retrain, or restaff as needed.

Project Manager III Additional Responsibilities and Qualifications

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage increasingly complex projects, including new generating units or first-of-a-kind projects with higher process and execution risks, additional technical challenges, and larger budget levels.
  • Manage large EPC or large multi-discipline outside Engineering/Consulting contracted projects.

Additional Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the utility industry with a focus on scheduling, budgeting, cost controls, and contract claims negotiations.

Additional Supervisory Experience

  • Preferred: Minimum of four (4) years’ supervisory experience.

Additional Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Required: Proven project management skill level as the "go-to" person for high-profile projects; proven skill as a mentor for less senior personnel; ability to successfully manage long-term, complex, and large-budget projects.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated understanding of broader business issues and practices.

Working Conditions

  • Includes walk-downs of construction sites and frequent driving to solar facilities.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a passport and travel by air as needed.
  • Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in response/recovery activities to maintain service to customers.
