HNTB’s Bellevue (Seattle, WA) office is seeking Engineering graduates with 8 years of experience, including 2 years of task or project management experience, to join our Aviation Department. This role offers the opportunity to lead aviation projects, supervise junior staff, and strengthen client relationships in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation.

About the role

The successful candidate will manage assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle, from developing scope and technical sections of proposals to overseeing project delivery. This position ensures HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivering quality work on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction. Responsibilities include managing budgets, schedules, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications. The role also involves high-level technical tasks, design reviews, and coordination with internal and external partners to address design-related issues.

The Project Manager I – Engineering typically manages one or more strategic projects under $1M or serves as a discipline lead on mini-mega projects ($1M to under $5M).

Primary project focus

  • Geometric design of runways, taxiways, and aprons
  • Bituminous and concrete pavements
  • Stormwater and utility infrastructure
  • Airfield lighting
  • Airfield support facilities
  • Coordination with airports, airlines, FAA, and other aviation tenants
  • Projects in all phases of planning, design, and construction

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scope and fee quotations; assist in preparing technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serve as the primary client liaison; manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and client satisfaction.
  • Assist with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
  • Perform technical discipline tasks, including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implement HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project; lead development and execution of the project management plan.
  • Supervise and mentor the team to meet overall project objectives.
  • Coordinate with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects.
  • Prepare proposal and presentation materials; lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects.
  • May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of staff, including performance and compensation reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years of task management or Deputy Project Manager experience.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience winning, contracting, and delivering 4 for 4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on smaller projects.
  • Ability to identify and escalate risk and change management issues with oversight from experienced staff.
  • Experience leading a team for smaller projects or task orders with minimal subconsultants.
  • Proficiency in using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver smaller projects or task orders.
  • Ability to leverage the Office Management Team to implement HNTB’s Sophisticated processes.
  • Experience interfacing with client-level peers on smaller projects or task orders.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to team and task leads while performing portions of the technical work.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Locations

Bellevue, WA (Seattle), Denver, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, Seattle, WA (Downtown).

Pay

  • Washington: $152,341.01 – $238,276.98
  • Colorado: $139,645.93 – $218,420.56

Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical work location within the state.
