Project Manager - Heavy Civil Construction

About the role

This Project Manager role will report to our Operations Manager and be responsible for managing heavy civil jobs ranging from $5M - $75M. The position involves planning, directing, coordinating, and budgeting construction and maintenance activities, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel. Responsibilities include conceptual development of construction projects, overseeing project organization, scheduling, and implementation, and coordinating a wide range of projects including hard bid, CM, and Design-Build. Initial project assignment is located in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Travel to projects throughout Southern Central states is required. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screen. Security clearance may be required based on background check results.

Responsibilities

• Manage mid to large-scale projects with moderate to high risk levels with minimal oversight.
• Oversee multiple construction projects in varying stages of completion.
• Coordinate with Construction Operations Manager to ensure project performance aligns with goals.
• Implement Corporate Safety Policy on all assigned projects.
• Mentor Assistant Project Managers, Project Assistants, and Project Engineers.
• Generate Work Plans for all assigned projects.
• Schedule projects in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
• Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites.
• Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes.
• Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff, workers, and clients.
• Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions with stakeholders.
• Obtain necessary permits and licenses; coordinate compliance prior to project mobilization.
• Fill in for Project Superintendents to direct and supervise workers as needed.
• Study job specifications to determine general requirements and appropriate construction methods.
• Requisition supplies and materials to complete construction projects.
• Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress, and cost tracking reports.
• Develop and implement quality control programs.
• Address delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites.
• Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to resolve issues.
• Plan, organize, and direct construction and maintenance activities.
• Investigate damage, accidents, or delays to ensure proper procedures are followed.
• Evaluate construction methods and determine cost-effectiveness using computers.
• Lead medium to large-scale Design-Build projects.
• Review owner contracts and project estimates at different design phases (30%, 60%, etc.).
• Provide constructability review and coordinate with design engineers.
• Create and prepare outgoing correspondence to clients, subcontractors, and other entities.
• Review, edit, and ensure documents submitted to clients follow McMillen format.
• Assist in preparation of Owner Payment Applications.
• Provide Project Closeout Documents to facilitate substantial completion and warranty periods.
• Track projects throughout the warranty period and provide final closeout documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or minimum of 5 years comparable experience.
• Minimum 5 - 8 years of experience with heavy civil design-build projects managing all aspects from design, approvals, procurement, construction, and implementation.
• Regular, predictable attendance.
• Ability to work effectively with others.

Physical Demands

• Seldom required to sit; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Work at elevated heights.

Pay

$130,000 - $160,000 (DOE)
