Project Manager/ Estimator

Position Overview

This is a skilled position responsible for the successful estimating, bidding, planning, execution, and financial performance of construction projects. This position prepares accurate cost estimates, develops competitive bids, manages awarded projects, and works closely with field operations, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead costs.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Develop competitive bid proposals and participate in bid reviews.
  • Analyze project risks, productivity rates, and scheduling requirements.
  • Maintain current pricing databases and market intelligence.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and support field operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Superintendents, Foremen, and Operations personnel to achieve project goals.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with owners, engineers, public agencies, and customers.
  • Resolve project issues proactively to maintain client satisfaction.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of construction estimating and/or project management experience preferred.
  • Experience in earthwork, utilities, heavy civil, site development, asphalt paving, and related construction projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and cost controls.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Experience with estimating and project management software such as Bid2Win, Trimble Business Center, PlanSwift, Viewpoint, or similar platforms preferred.

  • Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of database software.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
