Beaver Excavating is expanding and seeking a goal-driven Project Manager/Estimator to join our team in the Pittsburgh, PA area. This role oversees all aspects of planning and executing assigned projects, working closely with project superintendents, owners, engineers, and construction managers. The position also involves supervising and training project engineers and other staff.
Responsibilities
- Actively participates in ensuring job site safety according to Beaver safety policies
- Runs ‘Pre-Job’, ‘Mid-Job’, and ‘Post-Job’ meetings
- Communicates production goals clearly to field supervision
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously
- Develops and communicates project schedules
- Monitors and ensures completion of subcontractor and supplier activities
- Ensures subcontracts and purchase orders are completed accurately and submitted on time
- Provides mentorship to subcontractors to meet project goals
- Communicates professionally with owners regarding budgets, schedules, and change management
- Leads project reviews and problem resolution with owners, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Responds promptly to customer needs without compromising safety, quality, or reputation
- Coordinates project close-out and ensures proper documentation
- Maintains project quality and conformance to drawings and specifications
- Meets project DBE, MBE, and EEO requirements
- Informs customers of Beaver Companies’ capabilities and expertise
- Implements value engineering within projects
- Proactively identifies and avoids potential challenges
- Maintains awareness of project conditions, including union, environmental, geotechnical, and regulatory factors
Marketing & New Work Development
- Develops and maintains positive professional relationships in and outside the workplace
Management & Development
- Contributes to performance reviews for assigned personnel
Estimating & Bidding
- Accurately and efficiently bids projects
- Develops pricing for RFPs, change orders, bulletins, etc.
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of project bids and communicates effectively with superintendents
Cost Management
- Identifies and manages project scope changes
- Coordinates job set-up, cost codes, and project cost reporting
- Manages project payment applications
- Tracks quantities to update project revenues
- Directs pre-job planning, turnover, and lessons learned
- Manages project claims and change orders
- Leads efforts to address issues impacting safety, costs, production, quality, and profitability
Requirements
- Understanding of industry practices and project activity impacts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
- Leadership and complex problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and construction software
- Respect for coworkers and customers
- Ability and willingness to travel overnight as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent (field experience considered)
- 5+ years of construction industry experience
- Previous field experience preferred
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
Physical Demands
