About the role
The Estimating Manager at Messer Construction Co. is responsible for overseeing the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for various construction projects. This role involves collaborating with other departments and ensuring that all estimates are prepared in a timely and efficient manner. The Estimating Manager plays a crucial role in helping the company win bids and maintain profitability.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of detailed cost estimate preparation for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate estimates.
- Identifying potential risks and opportunities in project estimates and proposing solutions.
- Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements.
- Managing the bid process, including the preparation and submission of bid proposals.
- Working closely with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for bids.
- Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain the best pricing and terms.
- Ensuring all bids are competitive and meet the company's profitability targets.
- Serving as the primary point of contact for clients regarding estimating-related inquiries.
- Presenting estimates and bid proposals to clients and stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
- Addressing any client concerns or questions related to estimates and bids.
- Demonstrating expertise in various technology skills (iSqFt, On Screen, Takeoff, Blubeam and Sage Estimating).
- Demonstrating an understanding of industry standards (CSI, Master Format, BOD).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience (including co-op and internships).
- Skilled computer and AutoCAD skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Sage Estimating).
- Ability to work non-traditional hours.
Qualifications
- Expertise in various technology skills (iSqFt, On Screen, Takeoff, Blubeam and Sage Estimating).
- Understanding of industry standards (CSI, Master Format, BOD).
