About the role
Project Manager to oversee Electric Utility Projects, leading a cross-functional team of Design and Construction Engineers in the execution of Power Delivery Projects from initiation through closeout. Responsibilities include managing project budgets, interfacing with client departments, managing a portfolio of projects to improve or maintain electric utility distribution infrastructure, and communicating with state or regional management. The role requires working effectively in a matrix environment and managing employees without direct authority.
Responsibilities
- Strictly adhere to client procedures.
- Lead efforts of client and contractor personnel toward the safe and successful completion of capital projects through phases: Initiation, Definition, Execution (Design and Construction), and Closeout.
- Keep Program Manager apprised of status, issues, and needs.
- Maintain thorough documentation and follow up on key activities.
- Hold client personnel accountable through their direct supervisors.
- Develop Project Scoping Plans (scope of work, cost estimates, schedules using P6 or Excel).
- Develop Project Charters and Project Execution Plans (scope of work, cost estimates, schedules, one-line drawings, layouts).
- Develop funding requests and maintain work orders for approval.
- Provide weekly and monthly status reports via email.
- Maintain an electronic central project file (e-Room).
- Participate in routine construction meetings (teleconference).
- Facilitate interactions with external customers (phone, email, meetings).
- Update Project Cost Sheets monthly (Excel).
- Perform schedule maintenance weekly with assistance from a Scheduler (P6).
- Provide records for all significant meetings (email).
- Conduct Lessons Learned at project completion and update the Lessons Learned database (Excel and e-Room).
- Participate in monthly budget reviews with client management.
- Update miscellaneous reports (e.g., Construction Report).
- Conduct Gate reviews with the Program Manager at the completion of each project phase (Initiation, Definition, Closeout).
Requirements
- Five to ten years of project management experience.
- Experience in Electric Utility Transmission System, Distribution System, Power Generation, and/or Municipal Utility Management.
- Four-year Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required).
- PMP certification (preferred).
- Working knowledge of PMBOK.
- Familiarity with Primavera software (v6.0 or newer) and/or Microsoft Project (P6 preferred).
- Construction Management experience in Electrical, Civil, or Commercial (required).
- Program Management experience (preferred).
- MBA, Master’s Degree, or other Graduate Level Degree (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred).
- Project budget responsibility ranging from $250k to $10m+.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams through successful project completion from initiation to closeout.
- Superior interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite (especially MS Word and Excel).
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based (private or semi-private office) with occasional travel to off-site locations.
- Field duties may require outdoor work in plant or field environments.
- Interaction with team members, supervisors, and client personnel.
- Exposure to offshore or plant/shop areas with extreme noise levels.
- Must wear safety equipment as required for personal protection.
- May require working at multiple job sites in a day with exposure to climate changes.
- Periodic out-of-town travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing for effective communication.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Sufficient vision or observational skills for analysis and investigations.
- Sufficient manual dexterity for routine office duties.
- Personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel to off-site locations.
