Combine your mechanical engineering and project management expertise to deliver critical petrochemical piping and tank projects. Work closely with contractors, production teams, and leadership to drive projects safely, on time, and within budget. Job Title: Project Manager Job Description The Project Manager oversees complex engineering projects from initiation through completion, ensuring that all work is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory and building standards. This role leads the planning, coordination, and execution of multiple simultaneous projects, manages internal teams and external partners, and drives continuous improvement in processes related to safety, regulatory compliance, and production. The position requires strong technical knowledge in mechanical engineering and petrochemical piping design, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to foster a positive, productive, and collaborative work environment. Responsibilities Oversee all assigned projects from start to finish, ensuring completion in a satisfactory manner, on schedule, and within budget.Manage the proper installation of equipment, coordinating with internal teams and external contractors to ensure quality and safety standards are met.Facilitate a positive and productive work environment where all parties involved in assigned projects communicate effectively and share necessary information.Handle multiple ongoing projects at once, maintaining strong organization and effective time management to meet deadlines and milestones.Communicate with key stakeholders to determine project requirements and objectives prior to and during execution, ensuring alignment throughout the project lifecycle.Identify and recommend new projects and initiatives that improve processes related to safety, regulatory compliance, and production.Plan, identify, and coordinate all aspects of assigned projects, including permitting, materials procurement, internal and external staffing, subcontractors, testing, commissioning, and related activities.Prepare detailed project cost budgets by obtaining bids, estimating construction and labor costs, and applying applicable fees, permit costs, taxes, and other expenses.Develop and update Gantt charts for projects, incorporating input from production leadership to reflect accurate schedules and dependencies.Closely monitor project milestones and progress, proactively identifying potential delays and notifying production leadership of any known or anticipated schedule impacts.Ensure all assigned projects comply with applicable regulatory requirements, building codes, and industry standards.Work directly with permitting bodies and consultants to ensure permits are properly filed and maintained, and submit weekly written reports on the status of all ongoing projects.Respond to and address questions, concerns, and complaints throughout each assigned project, providing clear and timely communication to stakeholders.Supervise department staff to meet performance expectations, including reviewing and approving time cards and time-off requests.Assist with department staffing activities, including hiring, disciplinary actions, wage increases, and promotions.Ensure appropriate spare equipment is available for the necessary divisions to support ongoing operations and project needs.Review all blueprints and technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.Compare blueprints with outside contractor proposals to verify consistency and technical alignment.Review and negotiate contracts from outside vendors and subcontractors to secure favorable terms and ensure project requirements are met.Review quotes and communicate relevant information to sr. leadership, including production and executive teams.Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner, representing the organization with integrity.Follow established department and company procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of processes.Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, recognizing that consistent presence is essential for smooth operations.Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient and effective business operations, adapting responsibilities as business needs evolve over time. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with mechanical engineering preferred.Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience, preferably in mechanical engineering.Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, including at least 3 years of direct supervisory experience.Experience in the petrochemical industry, including tanker and piping design for tanks.Ability to read and use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D (latest version).Ability to read and interpret blueprints with strong attention to technical detail.Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing environments.Ability to identify and distinguish various types of welding processes.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.Excellent work ethic, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to meet important deadlines and manage periods of increased departmental pressure.Valid California Driver’s License with an acceptable motor vehicle record.Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, including some overnight travel to other divisions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Mechanical engineering with experience in plant design and piping in petrochemical settings.Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D and related plant design tools.Knowledge of Navisworks and experience extracting bills of materials (BOMs) is a plus.Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.Familiarity with tanker systems and industrial piping design.Ability to maintain a safe working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise teams, including performance management and staff development.Professional demeanor with the ability to interact ethically and respectfully with internal and external stakeholders.Interest in long-term career growth and advancement within a stable organization with a long history in the industry. Work Environment The role involves work in both office and industrial settings, including exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions when visiting sites or facilities. The Project Manager moves throughout the office to access files, office machinery, and collaborate with colleagues, and may remain in a stationary position at a desk or workstation for 50% or more of the time while reviewing drawings, preparing reports, and managing project documentation. The environment includes the use of standard office technology and engineering design software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office. Travel to other divisions and project sites is required up to approximately 30% of the time, including some overnight trips.
