About the role

Under the general supervision of Regional Director, Project Manager 2 will provide guidance on regional matters and programmatic issues and coordinate capital program activities for the Region among regional groups.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in various regional capital projects throughout the five boroughs, identifying local issues and working with the main office and regional teams to come up with common sense local solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director and Region 11 Group Directors to ensure capital program projects deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate input from regional functional units like Design, Planning, Structures, Construction, and Office of Right-of-Way.
  • Monitor milestones, scopes, and deliverables across various project phases.
  • Track project risks, analyze potential delays, and suggest mitigation plans.
  • Oversee office documentation, agreements, and required formal orders for regional sign-off.
  • Manage resources and assist in evaluating program performance metrics.
  • Apply project management tools and techniques to regional capital program.
  • Review and edit external correspondence.
  • Review and finalize external and Friday Weekly Travel Advisory.
  • Review project specific Construction Notices.
  • Attend Construction Lookahead bi-weekly meeting with Community Liaisons.
  • Attend Community Board Meetings.
  • Provide Emergency Management and ICS support, including situational awareness, via monitoring of emails and phone calls during activations and providing responses as needed.

Qualifications

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position.

  • A bachelor's degree and three years of professional experience in project management which must include planning and at least three other of the management process groups: origination (including governance/work intake, portfolio management, capacity/demand planning); initiating; executing; controlling; and, closing.
  • Current certification from the Project Management Institute as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM); or current certification from the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • A Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.

Skills

The preferred candidate will possess excellent writing and proofreading skills, have the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and proactively approach and recommend resolutions to issues. It is also important to possess an awareness of the need to exercise discretion and confidentiality with sensitive information.
