Project Lead - Fiber

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Runs major project crews; assumes responsibility for effective performance and provides necessary training.
  • Assumes responsibility for adherence to Company and customer safety and quality guidelines and holds weekly safety meetings.
  • Initiates performance-related communications and escalates issues to Project Manager if necessary.
  • Coordinates with Project Manager to ensure productivity, job completion, and compliance with project budget.
  • Installs work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and walls (terminates CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounts face plates, and surface mount boxes).
  • Buils closets (mounts and installs backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware).
  • Installs grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Completes all IDC connections (e.g., terminates 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
  • Performs testing: continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, uses volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoots opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs.
  • Installs various fiber optic connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP).
  • Terminates simplex and duplex jumpers and outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g., Corning/Commscope, 3DNX).
  • Calculates end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode and single-mode fiber.
  • Completes IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, Job Blog, tool transfers).
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Tests using an OTDR, Fluke DTX 180, troubleshoots network-wide issues, performs mechanical and fusion splicing, and performs building entrance splices.

  • Must be self-motivated, positive, professional, and able to create and implement project process improvements.

  • Must be proficient with listed tools.
  • Must be able to work at heights, off ladders, in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, hear and recognize audible signals, and see clearly.
  • Must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
  • Must have experience testing and troubleshooting MMF & SMF systems (OTDR & PMLS).
  • Prefer 5+ years of experience in Fiber and leading small groups.
  • Prefer industry certifications (Corning/FOA).
  • Prefer data center installation experience.
  • Prefer mechanical and fusion splice experience.
  • Prefer OSP / Confined Space Entry experience (splicing).
  • Must be able to use listed trade tools.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must be able to work at heights, off ladders, and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.

Pay

Min USD $35.00/Hr. Max USD $35.00/Hr.
