About the Role
Nabors is a leading provider of advanced technology for the energy industry, with operations in about 20 countries. The Assistant Project Lead position is responsible for assisting the Project Manager in achieving project objectives by managing execution, scope, schedule, budget, and other project functions. This role requires strong project management knowledge, performance, and interpersonal behavior. The Assistant Project Lead receives guidance from the Project Manager and Director of Projects and is responsible for small to medium project component assignments and teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage project components assigned by the Project Manager, consisting of cross-functional assignments and teams of varying complexity with basic supervision.
- Support project initiation efforts by contributing to proposals and tenders through development of presentations, pricing, contracts, and technical specifications.
- Develop and/or oversee project planning documents, including project execution plans, scope of work, project schedule, cost estimates, project budgets, risk management, and quality assurance.
- Direct and manage execution of assigned project team members, including engineers, project controls, contract administrators, inspectors, quality assurance, project specialists, and drilling operations. Ensure work is performed safely.
- Assume an active role in project interface through distribution of information and management of stakeholder expectations.
- Serve as a primary contact for communication between the client, contractors, and internal organizations by conveying technical, schedule, and financial information in a timely and professional manner.
- Foster a positive and rewarding environment for the project team to effectively execute project objectives.
- Monitor and control project work through performance reporting, schedule maintenance, and cost/budgeting analysis.
- Perform integrated change control through scope verification, quality monitoring, risk management, and contract administration.
- Close projects or phases through customer/sponsor acceptance, closing procurements, archiving relevant project documents, and documenting lessons learned.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Take an active role in personal career development through coaching and mentoring with project team leaders.
- Support business development by creating long-term value for internal business units from customers, markets, and relationships.
- Stay abreast of current technological progress to ensure the company’s products and services remain marketable and competitive.
- Ensure adherence to corporate Integrated Management System and HSE policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, with a strong preference for business and/or technical backgrounds including engineering, sciences, or mathematics.
- At least one year of work experience managing projects and/or teams.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; fluency in a foreign language is considered a benefit.
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Nabors does not provide work visa sponsorship for this position.
Skills
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of related drilling equipment, layouts, operations, and rig crew functions is considered a benefit.
- Knowledge of code requirements for the design, construction, safety, and operation of land and offshore drilling rigs (e.g., API, ASME, ASCE, AISC, ASHRAE) is considered a benefit.
- Experience planning project workflow for fabrication, installation, and testing is preferred.
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific fabrication and manufacturing design, processes, and testing (e.g., welding, machining) is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with rig and equipment testing and commissioning, including systems integrated testing (SIT) and integrated acceptance testing (IAT), is considered a benefit.
- Knowledge of business finance (e.g., interpreting financial statements, financial forecasting, risk analysis) is preferred.
- Knowledge of business and commercial law (e.g., contracts, trade terms) is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD design software is considered a benefit.
- Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook) and Primavera.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Ability to provide leadership to focus the efforts of the assigned project component team toward a common goal.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills, including writing reports, emails, and presentations for various organizational levels.
- Thoughtful decision-making ability in fast-paced environments with multiple alternatives.
- Effective negotiation skills when conferring with parties of shared or opposed interests.
Qualifications
- Previous work experience with a drilling contractor or related company is considered a benefit but not required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered a benefit but not required.
