PROJECT-II ARCHAEOLOGIST

Broadbent & Associates, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for a Project-II Archaeologist position based in the Salt Lake City metro area, with primary field work in the Great Basin, Mojave Desert, Sonora Desert, Colorado Plateau, and surrounding regions.

About the role

The successful candidate will conduct field work and manage cultural resources projects, including hiking in moderate terrain, communicating with field crews and office personnel, recording and evaluating cultural resources, and participating in surveys, excavations, and monitoring projects. While working from Broadbent's Henderson office, the candidate will collaborate with the larger cultural resources team in Reno and Denver.

• Safely drive field vehicles in backcountry
• Read topographic maps for field navigation
• Prefer field activities over office administration
• Help clients navigate Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act

Responsibilities

• Conduct cultural resources field work, including surveys, excavations, and monitoring projects
• Record and evaluate cultural resources
• Manage cultural resources projects in the Great Basin and Southwest regions
• Communicate effectively with field crew and office personnel
• Perform data entry, produce site forms, and handle professional communication (emails, letters)
• Write professional reports for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
• Traverse moderate mountains and desert terrain while carrying a 30-pound pack
• Work eight, 10-hour days in the field with potential overnight camping

Requirements

• B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field (Master’s preferred)
• Qualify as a Crew Chief or Principal Investigator statewide in Arizona and Nevada and/or neighboring states for federally issued Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) permits, Cultural Resources Use Permits (CRUP), and State permits
• Training and experience implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
• Five years of experience working in a consulting company, state agency, or federal agency
• Ability to perform both fieldwork and office activities independently and with a team

Pay

Annual salary between $61,000 and $90,000, based on education, training, and experience.

Schedule

• Full-time, salaried position (40 hours per week)
• Typical field project hours: eight, 10-hour days
• Out-of-town fieldwork and overnight camping may be required
