PROJECT- II ARCHAEOLOGIST

About the role

The Project-II Archaeologist will conduct field work and manage cultural resources projects in the Great Basin, Mojave Desert, Sonora Desert, Colorado Plateau, and surrounding regions. This full-time, salaried position involves hiking in moderate terrain, communicating with field crews and office personnel, recording and evaluating cultural resources, and participating in surveys, excavations, and monitoring projects. While based in Broadbent's Henderson office, the successful candidate will collaborate with teams in Reno and Denver.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field work, including surveys, excavations, and monitoring projects in remote and populated areas.
• Navigate and traverse moderate mountains and desert terrain while carrying a 30-pound pack.
• Safely drive field vehicles in backcountry settings and read topographic maps for navigation.
• Record and evaluate cultural resources in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Manage cultural resources projects and communicate effectively with field crews and office personnel.
• Perform data entry, produce site forms, and handle professional communication such as emails and letters.
• Write professional reports for Section 106 compliance; a writing sample may be requested.

Requirements

• B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field (Master’s preferred).
• Qualify as a Crew Chief or Principal Investigator statewide in Arizona, Nevada, and/or neighboring states for federally issued permits (ARPA, CRUP, and State permits).
• Training and experience implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Five years of experience working in a consulting company, state agency, or federal agency.
• Ability to perform both fieldwork and office activities independently and as part of a team.
• Project hours typically consist of eight 10-hour days in the field; overnight camping may be required.

Pay

Annual salary ranges from $61,000 to $90,000, based on a 40-hour workweek and commensurate with education, training, and experience.

Schedule

Full-time position with a weekly schedule of 40 hours. Out-of-town fieldwork may be required, typically involving eight 10-hour days per project.
