Overview and Purpose
The Project Engineering Manager at Gulf Copper LLC reports to the ASC Program Manager and is responsible for leading and overseeing technical and project-related functions in naval architecture and marine engineering. This role involves strategic and hands-on involvement in ship design, regulatory compliance, project coordination, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure engineering deliverables align with industry standards, client expectations, contract requirements, and organizational objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Oversight
- Lead and review ship designs, structural calculations, stability assessments, and hydrodynamic analysis.
- Develop building strategies for new construction.
- Ensure designs meet classification society rules, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
- Optimize designs for efficiency, performance, buildability, and cost-effectiveness.
Project Management & Coordination
- Manage and coordinate naval architecture, marine engineering, and other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural).
- Oversee timelines, budgets, and resources for ship design and construction projects.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure feasibility and manufacturability of designs.
- Manage designer teams and coordinate subcontracted efforts.
Regulatory & Compliance Assurance
- Ensure compliance with IACS, IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register).
- Work with surveyors and regulatory bodies to obtain approvals and certifications.
Problem-Solving & Technical Support
- Provide or obtain (as needed) expert advice on engineering and technical issues.
- Address design modifications and troubleshooting during the construction phase.
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor junior naval architects and engineers.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement in ship design and construction processes.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Act as the technical point of contact for clients, shipowners, and classification societies.
- Present design solutions, feasibility studies, and technical reports.
Repair Project
- Review the specification related to structure.
- Prepare detailed design for repair projects based on approved functional drawings.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering.
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in ship design and shipbuilding industry with technical knowledge of all stages of ship design (concept, preliminary, functional and detail design); experience leading design teams within an engineering design firm.
- Experience with software like AutoCAD, Rhino, AVEVA Marine, FEM tools.
- Strong knowledge of ship design, production engineering, testing and validation.
- Experience with ship design and production organizations.
Working Conditions
- Office and shipyard environments.
- Occasional travel for program reviews or supplier coordination may be required.
Necessary Equipment Operation
- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
- Ability to use Customer Supplied programs or websites.
- Office equipment, including telephone, scanner, computer, printer, etc.

- Project management skills with an ability to balance multiple competing demands.
- Good communication and leadership abilities.
- Confident and clear verbal communication skills are needed to successfully listen and communicate with multidisciplinary teams to ease consensus and complete tasks on time.
- Ability to learn new engineering software and design standards and integrate them directly into current project needs.
- Dependable, confident action-oriented, initiative-taker with a sense of integrity and actively contributes to building and expanding consultancy services.
