Project Engineer Senior - Senior Lead

About the role
Entergy is seeking a talented, experienced, and innovative Project Engineer to join the Power Development engineering team. This role drives innovation and technological advancement to enhance the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of new power generation projects. The Project Engineer collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and maintain engineering design standards for new gas generation plants, ensuring engineering products are complete, accurate, and constructable. The position promotes a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, best-practice implementation, and lessons-learned application. Relevant experience in power-generation—such as development, engineering, design, construction, or operations—is essential.
Responsibilities
- Promote safe behavior in accordance with Company expectations and adherence to project safety rules.
- Maintain and develop the Company’s engineering design basis documents for new generation project development; interface with Capital Projects execution teams to incorporate lessons learned.
- Support and participate in the technical evaluation of project proposals to ensure conformance to Entergy’s technical standards and project objectives.
- Participate in state regulatory commission approval activities by providing technical support for submittal development and interfacing with regulators as needed.
- Identify engineered safety controls and hazard removal during engineering design.
- Support/lead cross-functional teams consisting of internal SMEs, Owners Engineers, EPC contractors, and technical consultants during EPC contract development.
- Ensure engineering documentation is adequately captured to support audit and prudency review.
- Support/lead writing Record of Decision documents to present the basis of major project decisions, including evaluation of alternatives, stakeholder concurrence, barrier resolution, and timely risk/issue mitigation.
- Act as Contract Manager for engineering contracts outside the EPC scope.
- Perform/manage engineering design reviews to ensure compliance with permits, codes, and utility standards while supporting strategic, operational, and maintenance goals of the project.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to follow the Project Delivery System and ensure requirements and deliverables are met.
- Participate in contractor/vendor selection with a focus on assessing engineering experience, competencies, and capability.
- Support/lead technical open-book engineering processes during development with contractors and apply value-engineering concepts to ensure competitive project outcomes.
- Support/lead/follow change-management processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (required). Advanced degree preferred.
- Project Engineer, Sr: 6–8 years of applicable and progressive professional experience, preferably in engineering design, construction, or operation of power systems.
- Project Engineer, Sr Lead: 8–10 years of applicable and progressive professional experience, preferably in engineering design, construction, or operation of power systems.
Skills
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors.
- Expert knowledge of engineering fundamentals within at least one discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, chemical, construction).
- Advanced knowledge of engineering science and technology as applied to power generation, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment used in the design of electrical power-generating facilities.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of power-generation facilities and associated QA/QC protocols.
- Advanced critical-thinking skills and the ability to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches.
- Strong complex problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze information, and implement solutions.
Qualifications
Desired: Professional Engineer (PE) license and PMP certification.
Travel up to 25% may be required.
