Summer Construction Internship Overaa’s Summer Internship Program is a hands-on training experience designed to give students meaningful exposure to careers in the construction industry. Interns work alongside experienced mentors, contribute to real projects, and gain firsthand experience with a general contractor that also self-performs construction work. Depending on project and business needs, interns may gain exposure to Project Management, Engineering, Estimating, or Safety. You’ll apply concepts from the classroom to real construction challenges while learning how our project teams plan, coordinate, and execute work in the field and office. Throughout the summer, you’ll also have opportunities to learn about Overaa’s broader operations through jobsite tours, company events, and interactions with professionals from across the organization. Our goal is to give you meaningful experience, help you better understand where your interests lie within construction, and build relationships that can continue well beyond the internship. Interns typically report to a Project Engineer, Project Manager, or Project Superintendent. Duties & Responsibilities As an Overaa intern, you may gain hands-on exposure to: Assist with project document control, including drawings, submittals, RFIs, clarifications, as-built drawings, warranties, certificates, and other project documentation.Help coordinate and distribute project information to field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.Assist with tracking change orders and clarification documents.Support change-order estimating under the direction of the Project Manager.Assist with project startup, planning, scheduling, and closeout activities.Support the development, monitoring, and updating of project schedules.Assist the Superintendent with subcontractor coordination and weekly look-ahead schedules.Help schedule, process, and monitor project submittals.Support material pricing, purchasing, and procurement activities.Assist with project permits, utilities, bonds, and insurance documentation.Support the setup and use of project management information systems.Gain exposure to BIM/VDC coordination and project deliverables, as applicable.Support jobsite safety, quality control, and security programs.Learn how project teams evaluate construction means and methods using Lean construction strategies.Participate as a member of the project team and contribute with a positive, collaborative, and “can-do” attitude.Assist with general project administration, correspondence, filing, and document organization. Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.Interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry.Basic estimating and scheduling knowledge is desirable.Ability or interest in learning to read construction plans and specifications.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Self-motivated with the ability to use independent judgment.Strong organization and time-management skills.Problem-solving and decision-making ability.Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.High level of energy, curiosity, and willingness to learn. Preferred Software Experience Familiarity with the following is helpful but not required: Microsoft Word, Excel, and ProjectConstruction project management softwareProcoreViewpoint or similar platforms Internship Schedule & Compensation This is a full-time summer internship of approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Start and end times vary depending on project assignments, and interns should be prepared for early-morning start times common within the construction industry. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $25 per hour, plus $100 per week for living expenses. This compensation is subject to future modification. Our expectation is that you’ll work hard, have fun, ask questions, and take advantage of the opportunity to learn.
